Known chiefly as Rembrandt’s teacher. He painted pictures of narrative characters with exaggerated facial expressions and gestures but spoiled by over-fussy, anecdotal detail.
Pieter Lastman’s major works are Abraham on the Way to Canaan, 1614 (St. Petersburg: Hermitage Museum); Juno Discovering Jupiter with Io, 1618 (London: National Gallery).
