Pieter Brueghel the Younger by Anthony van Dyck
Eldest son of Pieter Bruegel the Elder (“Peasant”). He imitated his father’s manner and made copies of his paintings. Later did fashionable hellfire scenes, which gave him the nickname “Hell” Brueghel (he also retained the “h” in his name).
Pieter Brueghel’s major works are Fight between Carnival and Lent, c. 1595 (Bruges: Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts); The Adoration of the Magi, c. 1595–1600 (St. Petersburg: Hermitage Museum).
