He was born in Antwerp. In 1549 he arrived in London. His manner is difficult to identify. Note the pale faces with tight, hard eyes; carefully observed and outlined figures, encased in lavish costumes and jewelry.

Hans Eworth’s major works are Sir John Luttrell, 1550 (Private Collection); Portrait of Elizabeth Roydon, Lady Golding, 1563 (London: Tate Collection); Portrait of a Lady, c. 1565–68 (London: Tate Collection).
